Biotility Courses Announced for Fall 2017
Biotility at the University of Florida CERHB is committed to providing high-quality education and training to facilitate the professional growth of each participant. Our short-courses are attended by professionals, students preparing to enter industry careers, and researchers, all of whom seek to expand and deepen their knowledge in technical and regulatory details unique to biotechnology industries and translational research.
Below are our course offerings for Fall 2017.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification

Lean Six Sigma is a strategy for process improvement, using disciplined problem solving to eliminate waste, reduce variability and optimize outcomes. Green Belts are typically process managers/leaders who oversee a couple of projects each year in their specific area of their organization, while maintaining regular work duties. Whatever function you have in working in a regulated environment, both efficiency and quality are essential to remain competitive in the Bioscience industry. Learn the basics of a time proven problem solving and process improvement approach through highly interactive, self-paced e-Learning followed by scheduled instructor-led virtual classroom sessions to reinforce the course content. This course requires about 5 ½ hours per week for 9 weeks, of which 4 hours are self-paced independent study, and 1 ½ hours scheduled virtual classroom time. Bloodborne Pathogens Safety Training for Laboratory Personnel
This training is designed to ensure laboratory personnel understand their responsibilities to follow universal precautions and conduct safe work practices in compliance with OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard 29 CFR 1910.1030**. Employees will be trained on the epidemiology, symptoms, and transmission of bloodborne diseases; safety requirements and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) pertaining to bloodborne pathogens; and requirements of an Exposure Control Plan. **Excluding section (e) “HIV and HBV Research Laboratories and Production Facilities”

Chemical Hygiene Safety Training for Laboratory Personnel
This training is designed to ensure laboratory personnel understand their responsibilities to conduct safe work practices in compliance with OSHA’s Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories Standard 29 CFR 1910.1450. Participants are trained on general laboratory safety rules and regulations, proper handling of chemicals and chemical waste, how to maintain health and safety in the workplace, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements pertaining to chemical hygiene and safety; and the requirements of a Chemical Hygiene Plan.

Basics of Bioinformatics
This course provides an opportunity to learn and apply the fundamentals of bioinformatics and molecular modeling techniques using the specialized app Molecular World™ and BLAST. We will use these molecular modeling and sequence analysis tools to explore models of small chemicals, proteins, and DNA, and learn how we can use these models to identify cancer-causing mutations, search for drug homologues for various diseases, and understand the function of select anti-viral drugs based on their 3-D models. *LOCATION: Clinical & Translational Research Building, UF

Core Concepts in Biomanufacturing and Quality Systems: Applications of cGMPs (2-day)
This course provides future or current employees a comprehensive and applied understanding of how regulatory compliance is built into all aspects of a company. Using a blend of hands-on applications and lectures, course instructors integrate current Good Manufacturing Practices with core concepts of the manufacturing process, facilities, quality systems, and documentation to build a solid understanding of the development, manufacture, testing, and release of a regulated product. This specialty course is offered at a reduced rate and additional discounts do not apply. (Class size is limited to 20)
