Brian Sevier appointed UF CTSI Chief Operating Officer

We are pleased to announce that Brian Sevier, Ph.D., has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of the UF Clinical and Translational Science Institute.

Dr. Sevier will continue concurrently in his role as director of the Office of Clinical Research, which was established in 2017 as a one-stop shop for managing human-subjects clinical research. Under his management, the office, with joint oversight from the CTSI and UF Health Cancer Center, implemented the OnCore clinical-trials management system enterprise-wide and set national best practices in this process.

Dr. Sevier has been with UF and UF Health since 1995, serving as Associate Director for Clinical Trials with the UF Health Cancer Center prior to taking on leadership of the Office of Clinical Research. Previously, he served in various roles overseeing contracts and grants for the Office of Research and the UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. A triple Gator, Dr. Sevier earned his Ph.D., master’s, and bachelor’s degrees from UF.

As the search for a new CTSI director proceeds, Dr. Sevier will continue to ensure operations run smoothly, and to facilitate the partnership with Florida State University. In July, the CTSI received, in partnership with FSU, a $29 million Clinical and Translational Science Award from the National Institutes of Health’s CTSA Program. This was the third CTSA for our institute, founded in 2008.

It is a credit to the hard work of our faculty and staff that over the past decade our programs, services and initiatives have made a real difference in accelerating research to improve human health. We look forward to seeing the CTSI’s achievements under new leadership as we enter our second decade and our third round of CTSA funding.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Sevier to his new role.

Sincerely,

David R. Nelson, M.D.
