Description

This study aims to understand how the brain controls walking after experiencing a stroke.  The study will measure brain activity during walking with different levels of body weight support in people who have experienced a stroke in the last 6-months. The results may lead to better training plans and new treatments targeted at the brain to improve walking function for stroke survivors.

Participation includes…

  • Attending 2 lab sessions where they will be asked to walk on a treadmill
  • Treadmill walks that will include wearing scalp sensors (EEG) to measure brain activity
  • Walks that will be short distance and unassisted
  • Completing questionnaires about their physical wellbeing and walking ability

Eligibility

To be eligible to participate individuals need to meet the following criteria:

  • Be between the ages of 18-80
  • Have experienced a stroke within the last 6-months
  • Have paresis (reduced muscle strength) confined to one side of the body
  • Be able to walk 10 meters continuously without assistance
  • Be able to provide informed consent

Individuals who meet the following criteria will NOT be eligible to participate:

  • Have severe cognitive dysfunction
